Program Description
This comprehensive program will prepare students to handle patient encounters, patient customer service and other areas related to intake and the coordination of a patient’s healthcare experience. Students who complete this program would be eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) - Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) exam; the National Association of Healthcare Access Management (NAHAM) Certified Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM) or the Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) national certification exams – depending upon their professional experience level and other factors.
This program covers a wealth of information including patient confidentiality, medical ethics, medical terminology, the basics of health insurance billing and coding. Additionally, this program looks at customer service, satisfaction and retention around scheduling appointments and medical records management, referrals and transfer services. Finally, this program address patient check-in, admission and registration, revenue cycle and information systems as well overall leadership and management.

Learners who complete this program are eligible to participate in an optional volunteer externship opportunity with a local company/agency/organization whose work aligns with this area of study in order to gain valuable hands-on experience. As learners progress through their eLearning program, an Externship Coordinator will reach out to coordinate placement.
Note: Additional documentation including health records, immunizations, drug-screening, criminal background checks, etc. may be required by the externship facility.
